From drab to fab

We had the oppurtunity to purchase our first home together last February.

Pretty cute, right? I thought so. When we first moved in, however, the inside was kind of a hot mess. It was bad. But I knew it had potential.
Here are the scary before pictures.

The walls were an orange color. You can't tell by this picture but trust me, it was bad.

Let's paint a vine growing up the wall, shall we?
Yuck.

Who wouldn't want blue trimming? That's right, that's the color. IT IS NOT PAINTERS TAPE. All the trim in the kitchen was dark Digger blue. And the linoleum was faded and very worn. Oh and notice the handcrafted shelves.... yeah they're just straight up boards on cheap metal.

The doors were all custom painted. And they were not painted well, mind you.

Mmmhm.

They left their blue curtains behind, maybe because they matched the trim in the kitchen, who knows.

Notice how gross the carpets are. We lived with the stinky nasty carpets for almost a year. I was not happy about that...

So we got the house for a pretty good price, and I like the location and yard. The house was definitely a force to be reckoned with. I was 7 months pregnant when we moved in too so I wasn't very excited about all the work that needed to be done. I just wanted a happy cute home.
So we got to the grind and got to work on this poor little abused house.

And here we are, a year later, and it's so much better. It's been cleaned thoroughly (air ducts, coils in the AC were replaced, and the whole inside of the house was scrubbed from top to bottom and repainted)
We ripped up the nasty smelly carpet and put in a dark laminate and new carpet.
We ripped up the linoleum and placed tile. We repainted everything.
And lo and behold, it's a nice little home. No one would have ever guessed it was such a mess when we moved in.

That's all I've got so far in terms of after pictures, but it looks a LOT better. The kitchen is a lot different, it doesn't have a musty humid odor anymore, and I actually really love it! The other day Ryan caught me off guard and said he wants to flip houses with me more in the future. I turned down the proposition but hey, at least I know we both had a little fun with it! The fulfillment of fixing something up is great!!

5 years. 60 months. 1825 days. 43800 hours. Two million six hundred forty thousand minutes of love.

It's hard to believe that Ryan and I have been married for 5 years! As we have reminisced about the day we got married we've both realized we have grown worlds away from who we were 5 years ago. We've changed together for the better in so many ways. In 5 years we have accomplished more than I could have possibly imagined that day in the Rexburg, Idaho temple.

  • We both earned our degrees while married.
  • I got my dream job by becoming a mother to our 2 sweet daughters.
  • Ryan finished school and is now on his career path.
  • We've moved to 6 times, landing us in the beautiful state of Texas in our own little home.
We've had our small ups and downs as all marriages do but through it all we always come out knowing each other better and finding our marriage has become stronger than it was before.

And I'm going to let you in on a little secret.... We are the dorkiest couple in the universe. I know, I know, it's so hard to believe. :)

I love you Ryan! You've become such a loving husband and father. You provide the best shoulder to cry on. You're the sweetest ice cream eating partner. The most intent listener during my 1:30AM gab sessions. even if you do fall asleep in the middle of them sometimes ;) I'm so excited to fulfill our dreams and for the many more adventures we're going to have together with our little family!

Babies and blue bonnets

My favorite part of living in Texas is the spring time.
Hands down
The bluebonnets cover the open spaces like a thick vibrant blanket. There are small splashes of red from the indian paint brush.  On the drive down to our family's house there are fields that look like a vast body of water because they're so full of blue bonnets. It's breathtaking.
So of course, my natural tendency is to want to take pictures of my favorite people in my favorite scenes.
Makes sense, right?
But the truth is, trying to take decently posed pictures of babies is non-sensical. Seriously a bummer!
But we tried anyways.
And we got a few decent ones, here they are! I think we got Emma to smile ONCE because I was swinging baby Addi around, upside down, and Emma thought that was slightly humorous. (AddiLyn seemed to enjoy it too.)

And there you have it! The few good ones we got. I'm sure we took over a hundred pictures of them and we got a small handful of DECENT ones.
But then when you look at the ones that didn't turn out, they're actually dang hilarious. They're almost better than the ones that did turn out alright.

AddiLyn's face and mocking pointing finger says it all.

I call this one An Offering of Bluebonnet Sacrifice.

A: "This makes no sense in my brains!"

Emma's smiling? YES TAKE A PICTURES... Oh wait. AddiLyn is repulsed by the camera right now.

E: I'm happPSYCH.

A: "Gross don't put that thing by your face you'll get diseases."

As Emma is practicing her charming half smile AddiLyn is looking rather ominous

Emma excited because there are animal crackers, AddiLyn still so disgusted by the flowers everywhere.

Oh well! Good pictures or not, I love these crazy babies!! :)
